Description: Striking and symbolic, this Art Nouveau French Gold Fixe pin brooch celebrates Joan of Arc—“Jehanne”—in bold high relief. Her warrior’s profile is framed by her shield, crown and fleurs-de-lis, with the date 1429 in tribute to the pivotal victory at Orléans. The sculptural modelling catches the light beautifully, with polished high points and a rich, time-softened patina in the recesses. The reverse is every bit as considered, depicting Joan’s sacred sword, religious banner and laurel. Signed Becker for Edmond Henri Becker (1871–1971), one of the most prominent French master engravers of the Art Nouveau period, this evocative medallic jewel is a wearable fragment of French history with exquisite artisanal detail.
