Long before European contact, the land that would become Idaho was home to numerous Indigenous nations, including the Nez Perce, Shoshone, Bannock, Coeur d’Alene, Pend d’Oreilles, and Northern Paiute, each deeply rooted in the region’s diverse terrain and sustained by centuries of intimate knowledge of its resources.
