The remarkable progress achieved in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies over the past decade has profoundly influenced numerous fields within the health sciences, including dentistry. These developments are not merely technological innovations; they represent a paradigm shift that is redefining clinical decision-making processes, transforming research methodologies, and reshaping the future of modern dental practice. AI-supported systems have emerged as a pivotal driving force in the advancement of contemporary dentistry by enabling healthcare delivery that is more efficient, accurate, and increasingly personalized. This book was conceived to provide a comprehensive perspective on the intersection between artificial intelligence and dentistry. The rapid evolution of digital dentistry has led to the widespread adoption of radiographic imaging systems, three-dimensional imaging technologies, and computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems, all of which have become indispensable components of modern dental practices. Within this evolving digital ecosystem, AI algorithms play a crucial role in the analysis of radiographic data, the early detection of oral diseases, and the development of sophisticated clinical decision-support systems. Beyond diagnostic applications, AI technologies are increasingly contributing to treatment planning and the advancement of personalized dental care, enabling clinicians to design more precise and patient-specific therapeutic strategies that improve both the predictability and quality of treatment outcomes. Another significant manifestation of technological progress in dentistry is the emergence of robotic and AI-assisted surgical applications. These innovations have the potential to enhance the precision of clinical procedures, facilitate minimally invasive interventions, and support clinicians in complex decision-making. By integrating advanced computational intelligence with clinical expertise, AI-driven systems are gradually transforming the planning and performance of dental procedures. Importantly, the role of artificial intelligence in dentistry extends beyond clinical interventions. AI-based systems are increasingly being used in healthcare management processes, such as patient monitoring, appointment scheduling, and clinical workflow optimization. Furthermore, AI technologies are beginning to shape the future of dental education by enabling interactive, adaptive, and immersive learning environments. Emerging tools, such as intelligent tutoring systems, advanced simulation platforms, and AI-supported educational models, offer new opportunities to enhance both theoretical instruction and clinical training. However, the integration of artificial intelligence into healthcare systems inevitably raises critical ethical and legal considerations. Issues such as data privacy protection, patient information security, algorithmic transparency, and the appropriate role of AI in clinical decision-making represent central challenges that must be addressed as these technologies evolve. Ensuring the responsible and trustworthy implementation of AI in dentistry requires careful evaluation of ethical principles, robust regulatory frameworks, and ongoing, interdisciplinary collaboration. Against this backdrop, this volume aims to address an important gap in the existing literature by examining artificial intelligence technologies in dentistry from a comprehensive and multidisciplinary perspective.
