A flow switch is included because the horizontal in-line position requires it. The RJ (return jet) model instead mounts the cell vertically below the pool wall return jet and does not need a flow switch. Both produce identical chlorine output and cover the same pool volume. The HP is the more common choice and suits the majority of above ground pool plumbing layouts; the RJ suits pools where cutting into the external hose is impractical or where a lower-profile wall installation is preferred. The AquaTrol automates chlorine production but does not monitor or adjust pH, alkalinity, stabilizer, or calcium hardness. Continue testing the full water balance at least twice per week. pH tends to drift upward in saltwater pools and will require periodic acid additions to stay in the 7.4 to 7.6 range. Yes. The AquaTrol handles chlorine production only. pH, alkalinity, stabilizer, and calcium hardness still need to be tested and adjusted on the same schedule as a conventionally chlorinated pool. pH in particular tends to rise in saltwater pools and will need periodic acid additions to stay in range. How much salt does a pool need to reach the operating range? For a 10,000-gallon pool starting from fresh water, reaching 3,000 ppm requires approximately 250 pounds of pool-grade salt. The installation guide includes a dosing table for pool volumes up to 18,000 gallons. Always test the water before adding salt — residual salt from prior seasons may already be present. What is the difference between this model and the twist lock version? Identical in every way except the power cord. The W3AQ-TROL-HP has a standard straight blade cord for GFCI-protected 115V outlets. The W3AQ-TROL-HP-TL has a twist lock cord for locking 115V outlets. Choose based on your equipment pad outlet type. How long does the TurboCell last? Hayward rates the AquaTrol cell for approximately five years of normal seasonal use when water chemistry is properly maintained. The biggest factors shortening cell life are high calcium hardness, chronically high or low pH, and repeatedly operating below the 2,700 ppm salt minimum. Annual plate inspection and scale cleaning protect cell longevity.
