Grey Street – Gold Light

Grey Street – Gold Light

I recently purchased some metallic watercolour paints by Winsor and Newton. Although I’m no stranger to using gold leaf in my paintings, it’s usually when I’ve been painting in oils. A good example is my painting of the Angel of the North. However, I’d never come across metallic watercolour paint and was curious as to how they would work. I immediately went to work on a view of Grey Street – Gold Light where the use of the metallic paint would be valid to the overall painting. The Yellow Gold and Iridescent Blue paints were used for the sky and pavement areas. A touch of the Red Copper was used for some of the buildings, mixed in with traditional watercolour paint. The painting has to be seen in the flesh to appreciate the effects of the metallic pigment. It can be seen at my Studio & Gallery in Ponteland. Price unframed.
