Delicate ebony mala with an amulet

Hand-knotted mala made of 108 ebony beads with their warm, matte dark brown color. It is topped by a round, silver-colored white metal amulet featuring the syllable “Om” at its center, surrounded by the six syllables of the mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum” —the most famous mantra in Tibetan Buddhism, associated with Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. The 108 beads correspond to the traditional number of beads in a Buddhist prayer necklace and are used to accompany the recitation of mantras and the counting of breaths during meditation.
