Feedsack Quilt
c. 1880–1895, American. Strong graphic piece, now presented without it's original border. A field of buttercup diamonds create a lattice across a soft sandy ground. Made from slubby feedsack cotton and backed with a homespun stripe. Chrome orange dye common in late 1800s textiles. Hand pieced and quilted. Dense, linear stitches follow the diagonal grid, adding rhythm and subtle relief. Some wear and sun fading, although spare for its age. For bed or wall, inquire for display. This textile is available and currently being exhibited in the show FANCY & FLOURISH at the Jaqueline Sullivan Gallery in Tribeca, NY. Please email zora@jacquelinesullivangallery.com.
