Château Gigognan Clos du Roi Blanc, 2023, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône, France
Region Châteauneuf-du-Pape Country France Type White Grape Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne Style Bold, luscious, spicy ABV 13.5% Closure Cork Method Organic Limited bottling. Unlimited charm. About the Wine Clos du Roi Blanc is crafted from Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Roussanne grown on pebble terraces over clay and limestone soils. Grapes are hand-harvested with strict selection and then whole-bunch pressed for purity. Fermentation spans demi-muids, stainless steel and amphora, giving the wine both freshness and gentle complexity. A short maturation on fine lees brings texture and lift. Production is tiny—fewer than 8,000 bottles—making this cuvée a rare find. Tasting Notes Clear and brilliant in the glass, showing silvery-green highlights. Aromas of lemon, frangipane, nectarine, bergamot, kiwi, flower pistils, saffron and hazelnut evolve with air. The palate is lively and rounded, carrying citrus and vine-peach notes with a whisper of salinity. The finish is persistent, bright and subtly indulgent. Food Pairing Suggestions Perfect with ceviche, salmon tartare, lobster, seared scallops, or refined seafood dishes. Also excellent with creamy poultry, fresh cheeses, or aromatic Mediterranean plates. About the Winemaker Château Gigognan is led by owner Jean-François Hénin, who revitalised the historic estate with investment, organic farming, and a focus on precision winemaking. Vineyard manager Loïc Baillet and oenologist Jenna Le Lay guide the estate’s white-wine programme, balancing Rhône richness with clarity, energy and impeccably clean fruit expression.
