Ana Nohemí
Notes Apricot, Opal Apple, Milk Chocolate Origin Huehuetenango, Guatemala Elevation 1725 MASL Variety Caturra Process Washed This lot of 100% Caturra comes from a small one hectare farm operated by Ana Nohemí Pérez, a second generation coffee producer near the town of Conepción Huista in Huehuetenango. This parcel of land was passed down from Ana’s grandfather to her father, who transformed it from a completely uncultivated plot into a promising coffee business. With Ana now overseeing the very intentional processing and drying protocol of a benchmark variety like Caturra, it’s no surprise we were impressed by this lot’s flavors of stone fruit, apple and chocolate. Expect a remarkably balanced cup with a soft, creamy body. Ana is a member of Jovemcafe, a local organization of 25 women who, in collaboration with our importing partner in Guatemala, are undertaking development-focused initiatives. First, they founded a community chicken coop for egg-laying hens so that Jovemcafe members can earn additional income selling eggs. Second, they are creating a nursery for forest trees which can be utilized for shade in coffee cultivation, as well as fruit and wood trees which can be sold throughout the local community.
