Meet Dawnold the Rooster , who loves his mornings and the sun, forms a background for this beautiful hand embrodiered cushion cover from Kashmir. This uber soft cotton mulmul stole is a contemporary take on the traditional hand block printing craft of Mughal Block printing, Amer. These handblock prints have been custom made using azo-free dyes. At one end of the stole is a beautiful contrast pallu and at the other end of the saree is a contrast colour blockprint , that can be used for the blouse or used as part of the drape itself. Any imperfections found in the print is natural to the process of handblock printing and not a defect. ABOUT THE CRAFT ~ Royal Patronage Block printing in Rajasthan flourished under the Mughal emperors, who adored rich floral textiles for their courts. Persian Influence The signature motifs—lush vines, cypress trees, lotus blossoms—were inspired by Persian gardens and Mughal miniature paintings. Amer’s Contribution The town of Amer, near Jaipur, became a hub for block printers who supplied cloth for both royalty and temple rituals. Architectural Echoes Many Mughal block motifs mirror the inlay designs and jali patterns seen in Mughal palaces and tombs. Soft Like Air The fabrics were usually made of fine ‘mulmul’ (muslin), prized for its softness and breathability in the desert heat. Wooden Blocks as Heirlooms Printing blocks were hand-carved from teak or sheesham wood and often passed down for generations. CARE INSTRUCTIONS It is best to handwash them to retain the colours for long and dry them inside out in shade.
