Berg’s Improved Card Drawer by Joe Berg
Joe Berg introduced the Improved Card Drawer around 1945, and it remains one of his smartest little creations. The prop is a drawer box that allows two changes, and the drawer can be removed completely and examined. Even the outer cover can be shown quite cleanly and briefly handled by a spectator, though I wouldn’t invite a deep inspection. One of the nicest aspects of Berg’s design is the simplicity of the release. There are no levers, slides, or fiddly bits. You just push the drawer fully home and the change happens. The timing is entirely yours, with nothing added or taken away. In practice, the mechanism has been perfectly flush for me every time. _EF The first thing that you will say – IT’S A BEAUTY! Then when you examine the fine workmanship of the concealed mechanism, you will be entranced. This outfit consists of a cover and a drawer to fit the cover – the drawer is just large enough to hold a full pack of poker size cards (without case). ALL MAY BE CAREFULLY EXAMINED! The following effects can be accomplished: Two card predictions one after another from a fully shuffled deck. A chosen card torn into a number of pieces and placed in drawer becomes restored. A card is caused to appear in drawer. A card is changed – for instance the Four of Hearts changes to the Five of Spades and the Five of Spades changes to the Queen of Diamonds. Remember the drawer is taken all the way out of cover, which allows for closer examination. And many others. Can be carried in jacket pocket.
