Dark titanium and a mirror-polished MagnaCut blade give this Herman Knives Sting a sharp contrast between its two primary surfaces. Balinit Triton Star DLC covers the Grade 5 titanium handle, settling into the fine parallel milling and emphasizing the flowing shape of the scales. Polished hardware and a bright Grade 5 titanium pocket clip break up the dark finish with smaller points of contrast while preserving the clean character of the build. The 3.31-inch CPM MagnaCut blade is heat treated with deep cryogenic processing to 62–63 HRC and hollow ground with a large radius from 0.1299-inch stock. Its mirror-polished finish creates a dramatically different appearance from Herman’s stonewashed blades, reflecting light across the broad drop-point profile while maintaining a clean transition into the polished hardware. Deployment is through the flipper tab with a medium detent. At 7.80 inches overall and 4.49 inches closed, the Sting offers Herman’s construction in a more compact format at a finished weight of 3.95 ounces. Herman’s current-generation pivot system uses custom caged bearings with 16 ceramic balls riding against M390 steel washers manufactured entirely in-house. The washers are vacuum hardened to 60 HRC, precision processed by EDM and manually lapped through 4000 grit. A ceramic detent ball, tungsten carbide lock insert and tungsten carbide stop pin complete the interface, while Herman’s T20 pivot is machined in-house from vacuum-hardened 440C stainless steel. A titanium inset liner lock is recessed within the handle construction. The monochromatic handle keeps the focus on Herman’s precise titanium milling, with the polished clip, hardware and blade providing controlled contrast against the DLC surface. Its smaller dimensions distinguish the Sting from the larger Dragonfly, Mantis and Big Sting while retaining the same extensive in-house component manufacturing found throughout Herman’s current folders. Individually numbered #0821, this Sting combines MagnaCut, a large-radius hollow grind and mirror polish with one of the darker titanium builds in the Herman lineup.
