Denver Cutthroats Hoodie

The Denver Cutthroats only last two years, but their two-year stay at the Denver Coliseum is fondly remembered by Rocky Mountain hockey fans. They started play at the Coliseum for the 2012-13 season, the first hockey team to play at the Coliseum since the Denver Rangers in 1989. This also coincided with the NHL's lockout that lasted from September 2012 to January 2013. The Cutthroats had a great start with a 30-win season in their first year and served as a second-level affiliate to the Avalanche. They were coached by former big leaguer Derek Armstrong. Kyle Quincey also played a dozen games for the Cutthroats that year. They would make the playoffs as the final seed in their division but would unfortunately lose to the Allen Americans in the first round. Their second season was a marked improvement, as they went 38-17 and made it all the way to the playoff final. Unfortunately they would be dispatched again by the Americans. Attendance unfortunately wasn't great as they averaged around 1,700 fans per game the second year. It was certainly a tough winter sports market in Denver with both the Avalanche and Nuggets playing all winter as well. After that second season, the Cutthroats went on hiatus with hopes to come back, but only a few weeks after the Cutthroats announced their break the CHL itself went out of business.
