Early Pratt Ware “Macaroni Figures” Tea Caddy, Circa 1790

An early English Pratt Ware tea caddy, circa 1790, decorated in relief with fashionable “Macaroni” figures. The obverse depicts a gentleman wearing an exaggerated high wig, accompanied by his servant, while the reverse is moulded with a similarly caricatured lady and her attendant. The figures are highlighted in the characteristic Pratt palette of yellow and cobalt blue, with additional blue geometric and foliate decoration to the shoulders and sides. The caddy retains its fitted lid with pointed finial. England, circa 1790. Dimensions: 6 3/4 inches high including lid 3 3/4 inches wide at the base Condition: There are several areas of glaze and colour loss to the body, along with chips to the rims of both the caddy and lid and a chip to the finial, consistent with age and use.
