Market Square

Late on Market Square, the last full hour before the bars close. From the balcony, the lamps still going, the limestone buildings releasing the heat from the day. Below, a few tables on the patios still occupied, a guitar player wrapping up at one end of the square, the smell of orange peel and gin coming up from a bar two doors down. Pine wreaths from somewhere — someone's restaurant has them out for the season. Leather chairs visible through the windows of the place across the way. Peppercorn and sage from a kitchen still working. The square has been here since 1854 and tonight is the same as most others.
