Ripple Molding #234-29

Bands of crisp ripple broken by quiet, plain stretches across a neat 1/2" face: a lively skip pattern in the Dutch Golden Age tradition, knife-scraped in solid hardwood. Ripple molding #234-29 is 1/2" wide and nearly 1/4" high. Choose maple, cherry, or walnut below. Each stick is 5 feet long. The profile From the sight edge out: bead, fillet, and torus. A crisp bead rises right at the sight edge, a flat fillet sets it off, and the fuller torus behind it carries the light out to the back edge. The ripple runs through the whole profile in bands, with plain stretches between them; within each band the crests are about 1/4" apart and about 1/32" deep. The pauses give the molding a measured, staccato rhythm that sets it apart from a steady ripple. It runs in an old master cadence: no two waves are quite alike, each varying slightly in length and depth, as the ripples do on period frames. Ways to use it As a slim sight-edge molding or liner inside a wider Dutch-style frame As the whole frame for small paintings, prints, miniatures, and photographs On boxes, small mirrors, and panels that call for an antique look Details Width 1/2" (0.500") Height Nearly 1/4" (0.235") Stock Cut from 1/4" stock Pattern Skip pattern: bands of ripple with plain stretches between; crests about 1/4" apart, about 1/32" deep Cadence Old master cadence: each wave varies slightly in length and depth, as on period frames Length 5-foot sticks Woods Maple, cherry, or walnut. Unfinished, ready for paint, gilding, or your own finish Images are true-to-profile renderings in raw maple; cherry and walnut are cut to the same profile. Like the period originals, each stick shows small variations from the knife and hand finishing. That is part of its character.
