Lamson & Goodnow "US Navy Standard" 14" Chef Carbon Steel Stag Handle Shelburne Falls Mass 1880s-1920s

Massive yet light and nimble Lamson & Goodnow 14" Cuisine Massif / Nogent French Style chef knife with hand-forged after drop-forged carbon steel blade and newly applied new old stock stag handle. These old "Navy Standard" Lamsons are a great find and show up infrequently; this is the first 14" I have found in decades of hunting old knives. The acid-etched mark indicates it is post-1880, as earlier knives were hot-stamped, these were made up to the 1920s it seems, a definitive cutoff is difficult to place exactly. Always a great quality knife from Lamson with this mark however. The blade was full but had some disfiguring grinding marks, so it has been refurbished by thinning the blade and removing the bulk of the grinder marks. Blade is nice and straight and comes with a fresh edge.
