1762 Sebastian Kloz Violin.

Inside a fascinating violin made in 1762 by Sebastian Kloz, also known as Klotz, in Mittenwald, Germany. The great Italian makers tend to dominate the story of eighteenth-century violin making, but demand for fine instruments extended across Europe. In the Bavarian town of Mittenwald, the Kloz family helped establish one of Germany’s most important violin-making traditions. Founded by Sebastian’s father, Mattias, in the late seventeenth century, it grew through generations of makers, with Sebastian’s instruments among the family’s most admired. This photograph reveals the hidden interior of one of those instruments, offering a rare perspective on the craftsmanship of a family whose violin-making legacy continues to the present day. This fine instrument is currently played by John Noble of Orchestra Victoria in Australia. Limited-Edition Prints from an edition of 250.
