WE/CHAT/WORK/WATER - Prerorder

WE/CHAT/WORK/WATER by Nathanael Jones is a collection of experimental poems and performance texts preoccupied with how contemporary life is changing what it means to be human. The different speakers in these works wield language in order to articulate how personhood is becoming more and more contested under racialized capitalism. They grapple with societies and economic structures that not only see people as data patterns and race-gender signs, but also with how they are conditioned and incentivized to see each other and themselves as such. Concerned with giving voice to the ways that the enduring legacy of transatlantic slavery intersects with the gig economy, surveillance capitalism, social media, artificial intelligence, and digital realities more broadly, WE/CHAT/WORK/WATER attempts to situate the ramifications of chattel slavery into current discourses around the concept of post-humanism, drawing attention to how plantation economies were some of the earliest experiments in creating post-human subjectivities.
