Vintage 14k White Gold Natural Star Sapphire and Diamond Ring c.1940s

Vintage 14k white gold ring featuring a bullet-shaped star sapphire cabochon. The shoulders of the ring have a cluster of three natural diamonds on each side. The star effect is caused by microscopic, needle-like inclusions of the mineral rutile (often called “silk”) embedded within the gemstone. These needles align along the crystal’s growth structures at 60-degree angles. When a single, direct light source hits them, the light scatters to create a sharp, gliding six-rayed star.
