The program traces its history to 1964, when Brown-Forman president George Garvin Brown II began offering private single barrels to customers—an unusually early example of the single-barrel concept in American whiskey. For the 2026 release, the bourbon comes from individually selected barrels aged 7 to 9 years, with each barrel bottled at its own strength between 110 and 125 proof. Because this is truly a single-barrel release, the exact age, barrel number and proof are handwritten on each bottle and will vary from barrel to barrel. The style is classic mature Old Forester: rich caramel and vanilla over toasted oak, baking spice, dark fruit and cocoa, with the higher barrel-strength proof giving it considerably more depth and weight than the standard Old Forester lineup.
