This Jin Zhi Yu Ye Dian Hong, sometimes known as Golden Long Yunnan Black Tea, is made from carefully selected leaves and buds from Yunnan’s large-leaf tea plants. The presence of these fine buds gives the tea its golden appearance and contributes to the naturally sweet, mellow character that Dian Hong teas are known for. It’s a comforting, full-flavoured black tea that remains smooth and approachable with every cup. The Story of Dianhong Tea Black tea production in Yunnan is relatively modern compared with the region’s long history of Puer tea. Dian Hong (Yunnan black tea) was first developed in the 1930s and quickly gained recognition for its quality and distinctive character. The name Dian Hongsimply means “Yunnan red tea”, “Dian” being an old name for Yunnan, and “hong” referring to the reddish colour of the brewed tea. Because Yunnan’s tea plants are naturally larger and richer in flavour than many other tea varieties, Dian Hong teas often produce a deeper, smoother cup with natural sweetness and very little bitterness.
