The Gold 200 is the most compact floorstander in Monitor Audio's Gold 5G series, sitting at the intersection of the brand's flagship Platinum II driver technology and beautifully crafted cabinetry — delivering genuinely full-scale performance from a relatively svelte footprint. The three-way driver complement is built around two 165mm RDT II (Rigid Diaphragm Technology II) bass drivers featuring a sandwich cone construction of thin C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium), a Nomex honeycomb core, and a woven carbon fibre back skin — achieving exceptional stiffness and low mass simultaneously. A 64mm C-CAM dome midrange driver handles the critical mid frequencies, crossed over at 650Hz from the bass drivers and at 3.5kHz to the high-frequency section. The tweeter is Monitor Audio's MPD (Micro Pleated Diaphragm) transducer, a planar-magnetic design borrowed directly from the Platinum II flagship range, delivering articulate and extended high frequencies with an exceptionally smooth character. Dual rear-firing HiVe II ports handle bass loading with minimal turbulence and port noise. The cabinet itself is extensively braced and damped, finished in a deep, luxurious Piano Ebony lacquer with gold-plated bi-wire binding posts at the rear.
