Thought I would do a run of two transistor Tone Benders, otherwise known as MK1.5’s. Originally released in 1966 and available for around a year, these were transitional Tone Benders made between the MK1 and MKII Tone Benders. Tin Pan is the nickname of the Street where they were sold and this is a faithful replica I have made with low noise precision resistors, Vishay and Suflex capacitors mounted on strip-board and then onto a custom made aluminium bracket. I am only making 25 of these, so they will all have a pair of 1960’s Mullard OC75 black glass germanium transistors (like nearly all MK1.5’s of the period) from my brand new old stock. The biasing for this circuit really needs to be bang on and this task is not that much fun in all honesty and so, well I’m not really very keen on doing any more of these any time soon. However, as well as the mammoth biasing job, the transistors are also carefully auditioned for the best signal to noise ratio and the solid full fat OC75 fuzz tone. They also clean up very nicely from the guitar. Temperature affects these circuits quite a bit, but I have managed to stabilise the Tin Pan a fair bit so they should not be a total nightmare if you have had that problem before with MK1.5’s. I am very pleased with them. Enclosures are compact, professionally finished in silver with a black screen print and come with soft activation true bypass switching and top mounted Cliff UK jack sockets and knobs. The LED is a, not too bright, white unit beneath a clear lens. 9Volt PP3 battery power or via your own power supply. There is a 10 year guarantee, though after 20 years I have never charged for a repair, even one that would not be covered by the usual warranty. This is a limited batch of 25 only. They are boxed and will start shipping w/c 30th November 2025. USA tariffs paid for at this end. Stay well and thank you Steve
