Please place your order even though it says restocking soon. We order directly from the project after your order is placed and it takes around 6 weeks for us to get the batts to you. Maybe the most impactful project we have at Handmade Palestine, these carded wool batts support the most vulnerable communities in Palestine. The wool is sourced from Thiwani, a village near Masafar Yatta that is under brutal attack from Israeli settlers and soldiers on a daily basis. Shearing their sheep is one of the last possibilities they have for income generation as their lands have been declared a military zone so settlers can confiscate them and claim them as their own. The wool is then cleaned and carded by Maan lil Hayyat--an incredible initiative for communities with disabilities in Bethlehem - and used to create their wonderful wool products. The wool comes from heritage sheep known locally as Assaf, which is simply Arabic for “sheep.” Palestinians value their flocks for milk, cheese, and meat - and their wool felts and spins beautifully. It produces a strong, durable fiber when wet-felted; spins to an elastic, resilient yarn ; and makes delicious needle-felted creations. Our Bethlehem dyers also offer many beautiful colors, and they use this wool to create Christmas treasures available through Handmade Palestine.
