Niepoort Redoma Rose 2024
Produced by Niepoort in Portugal’s Douro Valley, Redoma Rosé reflects the estate’s focus on traditional vineyards and precise, minimal intervention winemaking. Founded in 1842, Niepoort is a family run producer now led by Dirk Niepoort, known for elegant, terroir driven wines from old vine sites. The grapes come from high altitude, old field blends planted on steep schist terraces along the Douro River, where poor rocky soils and a hot continental climate are balanced by cooling altitude and strong diurnal range. Made from a traditional Douro field blend including varieties such as Tinta Amarela, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca, the grapes are gently pressed to produce a delicate rosé. Fermentation takes place partly in stainless steel and partly in used oak barrels, followed by blending and a short period of maturation before bottling. The wine shows aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant alongside subtle citrus peel and floral notes, with a gentle hint of savoury spice and subtle oak influence adding depth and complexity, in a style reminiscent of traditional barrel influenced rosado. The palate is dry, refined and mineral driven with bright acidity, fine texture and a long saline finish. It pairs beautifully with grilled seafood, sushi, light salads, charcuterie and Mediterranean style dishes.
