Horological context Louis Cartier designed the Tank in 1917, inspired by the tanks of the First World War. Production began in 1919 and immediately fixed the model's codes: rectangular case with lateral brancards, dial with black Roman numerals, chemin de fer minute track, blued sword-shaped hands, and a crown set with a sapphire cabochon. The lineage expanded throughout the twentieth century: Tank Cintrée in 1921, elongated and curved; Tank Louis Cartier in 1922, which became the model's canonical silhouette; Tank Chinoise the same year; Tank Basculante in 1932, with its pivoting case; Tank Asymétrique in 1936; Must de Cartier in 1977; Tank Américaine in 1989; Tank Française in 1996, the first Tank fitted with a fully integrated metal bracelet. The Tank Lanières extends this lineage as a ladies version, recognisable by the gold buckle and passants that punctuate its strap. Character In addition to the strap currently fitted, shown in the photos, the piece comes with a black leather strap fitted with the original 18-carat rose gold buckle and passants characteristic of the Tank Lanières on leather.
