However if you are familiar with the game Go Fish, you'll quickly understand Happy Familes, as Happy Families is considered the European equivalent to the American Go Fish. They share the same core mechanic of asking other players for specific cards to complete sets, but they differ in the number of cards in a set and the specific goal of collecting 4-card "families" (in this case from each of the 9 UAE regions) rather than pairs. Gameplay: Like Go Fish, in Happy Families, you ask specific players for cards you need. If they don't have them, you "go fish" (draw from the pile).The Goal: The goal is to collect complete "families" (4 related cards, such as the mother, father, daughter and son from each of the UAE regions). In standard Go Fish, you typically collect pairs or sets of 4 of a kind (e.g., all four Jacks). Themes: Happy Families cards feature themed, illustrated families (like the "Abu Dhabi family" or the "Sharjah Family"), whereas Go Fish is typically played with a standard deck.
