Alaskero Overalls

The Alaskero Overalls are a tribute, woven with quiet defiance. There were the Sakadas, and then there were the Alaskeros. A word passed down in conversation, often spoken with a smile, alaskero: clever, playful, a little bit of a trickster. But beyond its lightness holds a deeper lineage. Alaskeros were Filipino seasonal migrant workers who shaped Alaska’s salmon canning industry in the early 1900s, moving with the seasons between sea and soil, carving space for themselves across unfamiliar lands. As American nationals, they organized, resisted, and built some of the first Filipino-led unions, holding both struggle and resilience in their hands. The Alaskero Overalls honor that duality. Designed as both utility and storytelling, this piece carries a sense of ease and intention. A structured yet relaxed silhouette allows for movement, while thoughtful detailing nods to workwear roots—reimagined through a contemporary, elevated lens. It is playful, but grounded. Each piece is woven with heritage: Available in deep blue and green tones, featuring either cotton tinalak in collaboration with master weaver Nida Bacaling of Lake Sebu, or green and gray Kalinga weaving by our partner Irene Bawer-Bimuyag of Lubuagan.
