Allergic rhinitis causes inflammation of the nasal lining in response to allergens such as grass pollen, tree pollen, house dust mite, pet hair, feathers, and mould. That inflammation is what produces the characteristic symptoms: a blocked or runny nose, persistent sneezing, and itching inside the nasal passages. Mometasone furoate, the active ingredient in Clarinaze, works by inhibiting the release of the inflammatory mediators that drive this allergic response, reducing swelling and irritation directly at the site where it occurs. Because the spray acts locally within the nasal passages, systemic absorption is less than 1%, making it well tolerated for regular use. In some patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis, a clinically significant improvement in symptoms was observed within 12 hours of the first dose, though full therapeutic benefit may take up to 48 hours to establish. For those with a history of moderate to severe seasonal symptoms, treatment may be started a few days before the expected onset of the pollen season. The recommended starting dose is two sprays in each nostril once daily. Once symptoms are under control, the dose may be reduced to one spray in each nostril once daily as a maintenance dose. Each 10g bottle contains 60 actuations and should be discarded within two months of first use. Always read the patient information leaflet supplied with the product before use. ##accordion-item-end## How to use Before using for the first time, shake the bottle well and prime the pump by pressing it 10 times until a uniform spray appears. If the pump has not been used for 14 days or more, re-prime with 2 actuations before use. Shake the bottle gently before each use. For adults aged 18 and over: use 2 sprays in each nostril once daily. Once symptoms are controlled, reduce to 1 spray in each nostril once daily. Do not use more than 4 sprays (2 in each nostril) per day. If symptoms do not improve after 14 days, stop use and seek medical advice.
