Euonymus fortunei ‘Harlequin’ - Harlequin Wintercreeper / Variegated Spindle
A charming evergreen shrub with creamy white and green variegated foliage that often blushes pink in colder weather. ‘Harlequin’ is brilliant for brightening borders, containers, or softening the edge of pathways thanks to its compact, low-growing habit. Light Happy in full sun to partial shade. The variegation tends to stay brightest with a good amount of light, though it appreciates a little shelter from harsh afternoon sun in very exposed spots. Watering Water regularly while establishing, especially during warm spells. Once settled in the garden it becomes fairly drought tolerant and usually only needs watering during prolonged dry periods. Avoid waterlogged soil. Temperature Fully hardy in the UK and copes well with frost. The foliage often develops lovely pink tinges through autumn and winter. Potting Plant in moist but well-drained soil. It’s adaptable to most soil types and works beautifully in borders, patio pots, banks, or as low-growing ground cover. For containers, use a free-draining mix and a pot with drainage holes. Hot Tips A wonderfully low-maintenance outdoor plant that responds well to trimming if you’d like to keep it neat and bushy. Remove any fully green shoots if they appear, as these can outgrow the variegated foliage. Great for adding year-round interest to pollinator-friendly gardens and small spaces alike. Although generally easy care, it may occasionally attract scale insects or vine weevil. Pet safety Not safe for pets if nibbled.
