1974 Couf Superba I tenor saxophone, s/n 73303. This sax was previously owned by a former member of The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” and has clearly been well cared for. The Couf Superba I was made by Keilwerth in Germany. It has rolled tone holes, a big bell flare that Keilwerths are known for, and has a huge, wide sound. Compared with the Superba II, the Superba I tends to feel more like the classic Keilwerth design with a darker, broader tone and a big low end. The previous owner recently had the sax overhauled with black roo pads and flat riveted metal resonators. The pads are still in like new condition. My repairman just serviced the horn prior to sale, adjusting the pads to make sure everything is sealing properly and oiling the key mechanism. The sax plays exceptionally well with great response across all registers. The neck is original and has never been pulled down. There are no resolders. The sax shows normal playing wear, but it has been well cared for over its lifetime and is in excellent playing condition.
