Level: Beginner to Intermediate Cost: $350 + HST Description: Unlock the art of wood joinery with precision and confidence. Dovetail joints are one of the most beautiful and time-honoured techniques in woodworking, a true hallmark of fine furniture making and craftsmanship. In this hands on bootcamp, we’ll work step by step to learn how to lay out, cut, and fit dovetail joints using hand tools. Along the way, you’llreceive guided practice, practical tips, and individual feedback, so you can leave feeling confident in your skills and excited to apply them to your own projects. We can’t wait to welcome you into the workshop, it’s going to be a rewarding time of learning, making, and enjoying the process together. What You'll Learn: This bootcamp covers both the fundamentals and the hands-on techniques needed to create clean, well-fitted dovetail joints. Foundational Concepts: Why dovetail joints work both structurally and aesthetically How to select and prepare wood for joinery Layout essentials: marking pins, tails, and shoulders Practical Skills: Cutting dovetails by hand using saws and chisels Using layout tools such as marking gauges, marking knives, and squares Dry fitting and fine-tuning jointsfor clean, gap-free results Instructor Bio: Payam Alinasab is a furniture designer and maker with a background in engineering and years of experience in the architecture and construction industry, where he was first introduced to design. After years of building furniture as a personal passion, he officially founded Payam Alinasab Design in 2019, focusing on traditional joinery techniques and timeless woodworking methods. His work centers on creating sustainable, handcrafted pieces that bring natural materials into everyday life. Payam is passionate about the slow, intentional process of making and values the deep connection between materials, craftsmanship, and the people who use his work. Alongside his practice, he enjoys teaching and is dedicated to sharing his knowledge to help preserve these long-standing techniques. He aims to empower others to create meaningful, lasting pieces of their own. Payam is also a photographer, bringing a strong visual perspective to his work. * Material fees included.
