INTRODUCTION TO RISO 2: Colour Separation for Photos and Illustrations 11/07/2026
Suitable for those who have completed Introduction to Riso 1 or with similar experience, this is the second workshop in a three-part introductory series presented by the experts at the London Centre for Book Arts. What You’ll Learn Building on the foundation of Introduction to Riso 1, participants will be guided through the process of Risograph printing with a key focus on digital colour separation–a fundamental principle in understanding the Riso and for achieving best results with distinctive colour palettes Topics that will be covered during the day: Understanding custom colour profiles in Risograph printing Creating duo-tones from both colour and grayscale photographs and illustrations Using CMYK Channels and spot colours to achieve unique 3 and 4-colour prints Mastering Riso-specific pre-press and proofing workflows. Participants are required to bring along a laptop with Photoshop or InDesign, and an existing artwork (photo or illustration) which they will develop into a small edition of prints during the session. This workshop is designed for those who have completed Introduction to Riso 1 (or with similar experience) and to prepare participants for Introduction to Riso 3 and the subsequent Riso certification process at LCBA. A successful certification is a requirement for working independently on the Riso at LCBA. Requirements You must have completed Introduction to Riso 1, or have similar experience A laptop with Photoshop or InDesignTwo photographs or illustrations: One in Black & White, one in full-colour. Could either be digital or analogue. If analogue, artwork should be no larger than 210*297 (A4) How to use the Riso independently at LCBA Successfully complete Introduction to Riso 1, 2, & 3 Book and pass the Certification Test to confirm your readiness for independent use of Riso Become a studio member by purchasing a Studio Pass With your Studio Pass, make a booking to use the Riso independently Although not required, if you are an up-to-date studio member with a valid Studio Pass you will receive a 20% discount on all workshops at LCBA (excluding multi-day courses such as Making Books School).
