Morphology/Growth Habits: Versatile, perennial sedge that forms clumps of fine deep green leaves. Slow-spreading by rhizomes. Inconspicuous flowers that bloom in spring and then give delicate drooping seedheads in late summer and autumn. Semi-evergreen/evergreen, giving a striking accent to your garden in all seasons! Height: 1 ft Light: Full Sun-Part Shade Moisture: Medium-Wet Bloom color: Green-white Bloom time: April-June Habitat/Best Environments: Grows in moist woodlands. Thrives in moist soils and part shade, but can tolerate sun and average soil as well. Can be very attractive when planted in groups in low areas with wet soil such as ponds and streams. When planted en masse, it makes a great choice for erosion control or lawn replacement. Also a great addition to rain gardens! Do not cut down sedges to remove dead foliage; run your fingers/gentle rake through them instead. Ecological relationships: Foliage is used for birds’ nests, provides habitat for small animals, and supports Satyr larvae.
