Wooden Icon of Saint Victoria of Córdoba — Holy Martyr and Confessor Saint Victoria was born and raised in Córdoba, in a devout Christian family, at a time when the Christian community in the city had grown large enough to draw the attention of the imperial persecutors sent by Emperor Diocletian. When the wave of persecution reached Córdoba, Victoria and her brother Acisclus were summoned before the Roman official Dion — and together, before his face, they refused to bow before the pagan gods of Rome. What followed was a martyrdom of remarkable courage. After enduring prolonged tortures, Acisclus was beheaded in the city amphitheater; Victoria was put to death by arrows. Their remains were lovingly gathered by a noble Christian matron named Mintiana, who carried them out of the city and buried them on her estate — an act of quiet heroism that preserved the memory of the first martyrs of Córdoba for all generations to come. A church was built over their burial place, and in the thirteenth century a monastery rose on the same ground. Most strikingly, their own family home was converted into a church almost immediately after their death — a testament to how swiftly and deeply the faithful recognized their holiness. Victoria and Acisclus are venerated as the first saints of Córdoba and among the patron saints of Spain, where they are traditionally invoked as protectors against thunderstorms and lightning. Feast Day: October 11 — within the Synaxis of the Saints who shone forth in Spain and Portugal Who prays to Saint Victoria and for what: Saint Victoria is a powerful intercessor for those facing pressure to compromise their faith — in family life, in the workplace, or in society. She is also invoked for protection during storms, and her memory is particularly meaningful for those named Victoria. This icon makes a deeply thoughtful gift for anyone who carries their faith quietly but with conviction, and for those seeking the courage to stand firm when standing firm is costly. Why this icon is meaningful: This is one of the rarest icons in Orthodox iconography, and its presence in a home carries a profound message — that womanhood itself is holy, that repentance restores dignity, and that no human story is beyond redemption. It is a deeply meaningful icon for women of any age, a remarkable gift for those named Eva or Eve, and a thoughtful addition to any icon corner that honors the full breadth of sacred history. It also speaks beautifully to anyone who has known failure and found their way back — a reminder that the first mother of humanity is counted among the saints. 🖼 Product Features Each icon in our workshop is made to last a lifetime and beyond.
