The Vultee BT-13 Valiant was an American World War II-era basic trainer aircraft built by Vultee Aircraft. It served as the crucial backbone of the basic flight training program for the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) and the United States Navy (where it was designated as the SNV). Positioned as the middle step in a student pilot's progression, virtually every WWII pilot transitioned through the BT-13 after mastering primary trainers (like the Stearman) and before advancing to complex tactical aircraft. A total of 11,537 Vultee BT-13 Valiant aircraft (including all variants and the Wright-powered BT-15) were built before and during World War II.
