St. Joseph and the Christ Child, painted by hand in Cuzco, Peru. Joseph is seated with the Child Jesus standing on his knee, one small hand raised in blessing. In Joseph's other hand, white lilies, the symbol the Church has given him for centuries to mark his purity and his yes to a fatherhood no one could have prepared him for. His robes are rich with gold brocade detail, and his halo is built up from the surface in raised gold. The Child's blue gown is dotted with light. The frame is solid wood, hand-carved in a baroque scroll pattern and finished in gold leaf. Every piece is one-of-a-kind. The brushwork, the gold, and the fine detail on both faces.
