This class is designed for anyone who wants to truly understand what is inside the hoof. No previous knowledge is needed. We will build your understanding step by step, helping you develop “X-ray vision” so you can picture the internal structures whenever you look at a horse’s foot. Together we’ll explore: The hoof capsule - the wall, bars, sole, frog and white line. How these structures are created, what they are made of and how they grow. The life force of the foot - its blood supply, and how the papillae nourish the tissues that produce the hoof capsule. The laminae - the remarkable connection between the hoof capsule and the skeleton inside. The scaffold of the foot - the bones, ligaments and tendons, their anatomy, and the important jobs they perform. The corium, digital cushion and ungual cartilages, and how they work together to protect the horse and absorb the enormous forces generated during movement. When things go wrong-we will touch on laminitis, navicular issues, white line disease and thrush. This is not a lecture full of whiteboards and diagrams. Instead, you’ll learn from real equine anatomy using cadaver dissections, sagittal slices, plastinated specimens, bones, X-rays and anatomical models. You’ll see the structures exactly as they exist in the horse, making them far easier to understand and remember. Each topic builds on the last, allowing you to develop a clear picture of how every structure works individually - and how they all work together as one remarkable organ. Whether you’re a horse owner, trimmer, farrier, therapist, veterinary professional or simply fascinated by equine anatomy, this class will give you a solid foundation and change the way you look at the equine foot forever. Come with curiosity. Leave seeing the foot in three dimensions. One of the best parts of the live class is the chance to ask questions and get clarifications in real time. The class will also be recorded and edited, it will be sent out to everybody that purchased a ticket within a few weeks of the webinar taking place. You’re also welcome to send me questions after class or after watching the recording.
