Kelley Fox Canary Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir 2023
Kelley Fox: This is my fourth bottling of Canary Hill Vineyard. Originally planted in 1982 by Dick and Nancy Daniel, this classic Eola-Amity Hills vineyard was purchased by Ken Wright Cellars in 2006. Their vineyard manager, Seth Miller, has been farming it organically with the utmost love and care. It’s called “Canary Hill” because the founders were told that the countless little yellow birds that live there were canaries. They are Western goldfinches, but the name stayed. This vineyard is beautiful. The Canary Hill 2023 is a deep, medium-dark red with blue undertones and eye-catching transparency. The 2023 is a serious wine and is true to the Eola-Amity Hills. The nose is full of rich blue, red, and black berries with enticing spices and fresh minerals on the palate. The mouth is a seamless continuation of the nose, and the texture has gorgeous heft. There’s a depth and presence that feels powerful in this wine that compels one’s attention.
