Labradorite is celebrated above all for its extraordinary optical phenomenon known as labradorescence — a vivid, shifting play of colour caused by light refracting between microscopic internal layers of the stone. Depending on the angle of light, a single specimen can flash electric blue, teal, gold, violet, and green in rapid succession.
