14 Rocks and Shadows

This set was curated by Colorado artist, Ivadell Marie. My students inspired me to curate this set, requesting a class on how to paint rocks. I wanted to simplify this for them as well as influence their color choices to be something other than tan and grey. So besides my own references, I researched paintings by Skip Whitcomb, Albert Handell and John Singer Sargent. Quite an inspirational trio, all of whom use a superb variety of colors! I then needed to put the colors to the test, and my painting “Inspiration Rock” was born. And, of course, since I adore them, I couldn’t resist using a few iridescents!
