3'3 x 10'5 Antique Persian Malayer Runner with Herati Design / 1920s Hall Runner #4246ML
It's the border that does it first with a SHOWSTOPPER vine-and-blossom that unfurls along an ivory ground, bold and beautifully drawn. This kind of border is ornate and makes the whole room feel considered. It's what makes the runner stand out from the crowd of other rugs. When your eyes land inward to the field, you'll see a Herati design woven on a midnight-navy ground. It's intricate, hypnotic, dark and moody. The edge guards have a dainty floral chain. This antique Persian runner was woven in the early 1920s in the Malayer village weaving tradition, known for their precise draftsmanship, their rich vegetable-dyed palettes, and their singular decorative sensibility. The low pile wool here with vegetable dyes are extraordinary with deep emerald green, coral, teal blue, pistachio and kiwi green, charcoal, espresso and walnut brown, golden yellow, French blue, umber, rust, and a whisper of light dusty mauve. It's earthy, rich and utterly gorgeous. This old beauty shows its age with some wear in the field, scattered about. On one end, there is a repair as well. On the back of the rug, there is an old reinforcement with carpet glue, to help reinforce the runner. Please see pics for full character and condition. ____________________________________________________________________________________ The Rug Rundown… the wool…the weave…the wear Size: 3'3 x 10'5 Material: Vegetable dyed wool Construction: Hand-knotted Origin: Persia Age: 1920s Design: Herati field on midnight navy; vine and blossom repeat border on ivory ground Condition: Low pile, with scattered wear and repair at one end. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ :: Please consider a rug pad for this old beauty, to keep it protected and wiggle free.
