Russian icon beginnen 19th century. Egg tempera on gesso on Gold leaves wood panel. The Lamentation over the Cross, with the Virgin Mary and St. John the Evangelist flanking the crucified Christ, and God the Father and the Holy Spirit as a dove above him. A richly decorated, and engraved gilded border surrounds the scene, with Mary of Cleophas and Mary Magdalene in niches to the left and right. Size: 13 3/4” x 12” (35 x 30.5 cm)
