The Three Blue Signals

Okay, THIS is the kind of vintage ring that gets weird in exactly the right way. Three Blue Gem turquoise stones stacked vertically like little signal lights, separated by oversized silver discs that give the whole thing this almost mid-century modern / satellite-age geometry. It is unmistakably Southwestern, but the proportions are strange enough that it doesn’t feel like every other old three-stone ring. And the turquoise is doing three different things at once: clean electric blue up top, matrix and movement through the center, then that gorgeous dark horizon cutting across the bottom stone. Why This Piece Matters Blue Gem is one of the classic Nevada turquoise identities, and good vintage examples have become increasingly collectible. More importantly, this isn’t just three stones lined up in a row—the maker created an actual composition. Twisted silver wire frames each cabochon. Two trios of large silver drops create rhythm between them. The long vertical format exaggerates the hand beautifully while the split shank gives the oversized face enough support without making the ring feel bulky. There are remarkably close vintage Blue Gem three-stone row rings on the market, including a documented 1970s example using the same elongated three-stone vocabulary. Current dealer offerings also show vintage Blue Gem rings ranging from roughly $250 for simpler examples into the $395+ range, with stronger gallery material considerably higher. That single dark matrix line running horizontally through bright blue turquoise looks like a horizon, while the center stone is completely different—cloudier, earthier, more complicated. If all three stones matched perfectly, the ring wouldn’t be nearly as interesting. The old surface and oxidation around the ropework also give the silver some depth without obscuring the architecture.
