Vintage 18ct Gold Diamond Star Bombé Cocktail Ring
A fabulous vintage 18ct gold bombé cocktail ring, dating from around the 1970s and possibly French, with a bold domed form scattered with diamonds set into little engraved stars. The broad, rounded surface gives the ring wonderful presence on the hand, while the diamonds appear almost like a constellation scattered across the gold. Each stone is set low into the ring, surrounded by star-shaped engraving that catches the light and gives the diamonds an extra sense of sparkle. The surface of the gold has a softly sketched, textured finish, rather than being completely polished, which adds another layer of interest and is particularly evocative of jewellery from the 1960s and 1970s. This was a period when jewellers embraced bold scale, tactile gold surfaces and sculptural forms. It is a large statement ring and very much a cocktail ring, but one that feels remarkably modern today. Bold, playful and wonderfully easy to wear, it looks particularly good worn alone and allowed to make the statement.
