Vintage Japanese Fabric Rat and Hammer Kimekomi doll

A lovely Kimekomi doll featuring a white rat in a coat holding onto a string which is connected to a lucky hammer. A symbol of good fortune, figures like this would often be given on festivals and new years. Kimekomi dolls are made by first constructing a wooden form with carved grooves. The fabric is then wrapped and tucked into the grooves creating the creases and separation. They are wonderful 3d dimensional fabric sculptures. We found this one in Osaka on our recent trip. Measures 10.5cm long x 7cm wide x 8.5cm tall
