Put as far away as possible from activity – out in the bush, not in back yard Put it near a swamp, marsh, or pond - where there is food for the owls (snakes, bugs, crawfish) Do not place it facing west. Avoid the west wind. They nest in late January into February – and there are nasty winds from the west that can drop the success rate. Facing east or southeast is best – it gets morning sun, but not hot southwestern sun. Shavings are an option to put in the base of the nesting box.
