Artek 69 Dining Chair by Alvar Aalto (Brown)

Artek Model 69 dining chairs designed by Alvar Aalto. The Model 69 is one of Aalto’s best known chair designs and has the simple, practical character of a classic kitchen or café chair. It has a wide seat and a supportive curved backrest, making it comfortable for everyday use. The chairs were designed by Alvar Aalto in 1935 and are made in Finland from birch, with veneered backrests. These chairs date from around the 1980s and have been upholstered with brown vinyl. Aalto developed his own way of bending solid birch by cutting thin slits into the wood, bending it into shape and then gluing it back together. This technique was an important part of his furniture designs and came before the later, simpler method of bending plywood. These chairs are in great condition with normal signs of use.
