You go behind the scenes at a banner factory to dye a koi wall hanging. You tour an indigo farm in Tokushima Prefecture. You make paper embellished with indigo at a famous washi factory. You wander Kojima Jeans Street, the home of Japanese denim. And more! Along the way, you gain a deeper understanding of Japan’s indigo traditions—and plenty of memories to bring home. When you head to Tokushima Prefecture, the heart of Japan’s indigo-growing region, you keep your room at Hotel Okura Kyoto and take only your carry-on. On the third night, you return to your Kyoto “nest” for the rest of the tour.
